Articles By Peter Duffy
Peter Duffy has written many interesting
articles which have been published in trade journals. Here is an excerpt from one of them entitled
Navigating the New Economy:
The longest economic expansion in American
History should have an asterisk beside it in the record book. It should be a more
prominent asterisk than the famed Roger Maris asterisk, which questioned
whether Maris had really broken Babe Ruth's home run record because
Maris hit in 162 games compared to Ruth's 154. Still, Maris really hit all
those home runs. In contrast, much of the economic expansion of the 1990's just wasn't real.
Fueled by borrowing costs that were almost free and an
overcapacity to produce and deliver goods and services to consumers and
companies, Wall Street brought to market stocks and bonds in such numbers
that the quality of growth disengaged with reality.
It was the longest economic run in history, but
it was probably the shallowest.
